Song: "Heart
of the World" by Lady
Antebellum
This is my first wedding in
about two months, and the first since
I had surgery. In spite of the
22 hour day, and 11 straight hours on
my feet (3pm to 2am), I only had a
little trouble with my voice going
hoarse when I tried to get
louder. I tried to get louder
(on the mic) because there were some
375 people in a ballroom with a
(relatively) low ceiling, and it was
packed. Usually I would setup
extra speakers, but, again, there were
so many people in the room I didn't
have the space, so we did the best we
could and it all worked out.
Onto the fun.
Katie and Brady both liked the idea of
making their first dance song a little
extra special, so they each recorded a
short message for the other, in
secret, and I put it into the
song. The original recordings
weren't fantastic quality, so I
stopped by the church early and, when
each had a break during pictures, I
re-recorded them, then onto the
reception hall to setup.
Brady is a specialist in the U.S. Army
who just returned from
Afghanistan. Probably my
favorite detail is that, while
deployed, they used to turn their
stereo speakers pointing out of the
base and blast Miley Cyrus' "Party in
the U.S.A." I can't think of
anything more effective to instill
fear in the heart of my enemies than
that. Except maybe having all
the groomsmen sing it at the
dance. Terrifying.
Both dads gave good toasts, though
Katie's dad's description of all the
roadblocks he put up to keep her away
from 'some boy from Ulland' was very
funny. No bouquet toss because,
as Katie put it, we'd need to do
something more in line with the idea
of 'I don't want to get
married.'
